Zagreb, Kyoto sign friendship charter

ZAGREB, Aug 30 (Hina) - The mayors of the Croatian capital of Zagreb and the Japanese city of Kyoto, Milan Bandic and Daisaku Kadokawa, on Tuesday signed a charter on friendship between their two cities.

Kyoto's delegation, led by Mayor Kadokawa, is on a visit to Zagreb from 29 August to 1 September on the occasion of the 30 anniversary of friendship between Zagreb and Kyoto.

During today's charter-signing ceremony, Mayor Bandic said that Zagreb and Croatia thanked the city administration of Kyoto and the Japanese government for the humanitarian assistance they had offered to Croatia during the Homeland Defence War.

Zagreb and Croatia deeply sympathised with the Japanese people during the disastrous earthquake and tsunami earlier this year, Bandic said.

Mayor Kadokawa said that arrangements had been made for a visit by Bandic and a Zagreb delegation to Kyoto this autumn, and he expressed gratitude for the support during and after the quake and tsunami.

Japanese Ambassador to Croatia Yoshio Tamura expressed hope that the long-standing friendly relations between Zagreb and Kyoto would keep improving and thanked Bandic and Zagreb's residents for the sympathy and financial assistance after Japan was hit by the said disasters.
