General Kruljac sent into retirement

ZAGREB, Aug 10 (Hina) - Croatia's defence minister Davor Bozinovic has decided to send Lieutenant General Mladen Kruljac into retirement, the defence ministry told Hina on Wednesday.

The decision was made at the proposal of the Croatian Armed Forces' chief-of-staff, Drago Lovric, in accordance with plans for the retirement of military personnel in 2011 and in compliance with Croatian laws, the ministry's deputy spokesman, Drazen Jonjic, said.

Lt. Gen. Kruljac, a former commander of the Croatian ground forces, is in investigative custody in Osijek on suspicion that he and five other men were involved in murky dealings in the sale of building plots in the eastern Croatian municipality of Sibinj and that they defrauded the municipal and the state budget of 17 million kuna.

The six suspects were placed in custody in early July and the Osijek county court recently extended their detention for two more months.
