ZAGREB, Dec 29 (Hina) - The Y2K problem will not affect the security in railway traffic in Croatia, reported the Croatian Rails (HZ) on Wednesday. The so-called millennium bug has been partly solved by the HZ, but some segments could

ZAGREB, Dec 29 (Hina) - The Y2K problem will not affect the security
in railway traffic in Croatia, reported the Croatian Rails (HZ) on
Wednesday.
The so-called millennium bug has been partly solved by the HZ, but
some segments could not be settled as there was a lack of financial
means for this purpose.
HZ officials stressed that there would be no problems concerning
the security of the railway traffic as signal and security systems
for traffic regulation are not sensitive to the Y2K problem.
That's why trains on the Croatian railway lines will not be stopped
on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Delays in the arrival of some
international trains are likely to happen due to the
discontinuation of the traffic on railroads of some other European
countries, but passengers are to be informed of it on time.
Systems for the ticket sales at Croatian railway stations should
not be hit by possible problems caused by the millennium bug, HZ
said.
Screen displays showing information on departures and arrivals of
trains will not work at the Zagreb Central Station on January 1,
2000, as they have not still been adjusted to the change of dates.
Therefore, an additional number of staff will work at information
desks in the station and passengers will be notified over the PA
more frequently of the time schedule of trains until screen
displays can function again.
Cargo traffic will not be seriously affected by the Y2K. It will
only cause slower procession of data.
