TOMCIC:FIVE OPPOSITION PARTIES' REPS TO GIVE UP HALF OF THEIR SALARY

SPLIT, Dec 22 (Hina) - If they win the coming election, members of parliament and of the government from the parties gathered in the 'opposition five' coalition (HSS-LS-HNS-IDS-ASH) will give up a half of their salaries to show solidarity with a majority of citizens who hardly make ends meet, said the President of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Zlatko Tomcic, in Split where this opposition coalition held its central pre-election rally for the tenth electoral unit on Tuesday night. Candidates of that coalition for the 10th constituency and leaders of the HSS, LS, and HNS addressed the rally. If it comes to power, the opposition will first obtain thorough and correct data on the real state of affairs in the country, as such data are now not made available to the opposition. After that it will be ready to solve difficulties in order to accomplish the main objective: the dignity and normal existence of each citizen of Croatia, Tomcic said adding that the opposition would need 100 days of social peace after the election to initiate the changes. To remain in power in Croatia, for many, means to retain privileges and therefore voters should choose a different society and homeland at the forthcoming election. It is high time the Croatian authorities were worthy of the beauty of their own country, said Vlado Gotovac, the President of the Liberal Party (LS). The best guarantee that none of the parties in the opposition five can rule the country "in an arrogant and gruff manner like the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union)" is the fact that we will have to control one another. Our coalition is now a successful test for the authority that will not despise their own voters, Vesna Pusic, a Vice-President of the Croatian People's Party (HNS), said in Split. (hina) ms
