ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - The Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine, Msgr.
Eterovic, who on Monday led talks with Croatian Foreign Minister
Mate Granic, held a news conference after that in the offices of the
Croatian Bishops' Conference.
He told reporters that during his meeting with Granic he
particularly wanted to be notified of the health condition of
Croatia's President Franjo Tudjman.
The Catholic dignitary called on the faithful to pray for the
President's recovery.
The two also pointed to the importance of a recent visit of
Croatia's delegation led by President Tudjman to the Holy See as
well as of the opening of the exhibition on Croats, their
Christianity and Art in Vatican museums.
Last May Pope John Paul II appointed Msgr. Eterovic to be Apostolic
Nuncio to the Ukraine and proclaimed him the titular Bishop of
Sisak.
At the invitation of Zagreb Archbishop Josip Bozanic, Eterovic,
born in Croatia, has been visiting the country since 26 to 29
November.
Yesterday Eterovic toured Sisak where he said a Mass in the Church
of St. Cross.
Asked about ties between the Holy See and Croatia, Eterovic,
described four agreements signed between Zagreb and the Vatican as
very important. "This (those treaties) does not mean a lack of trust
in Croatia's laws, but it is the deepening of Croatia's
legislation, and the Holy See refers to canon laws in those
treaties," Eterovic said responding to a question whether the
concord mean mistrust in the Croatian legal system.
Asked whether the signed agreements make it possible for the
Catholic Church in Croatia to get back its assets and property
nationalised during the Communist rule, Eterovic answered that
what will be possible to return will be given back, particularly a
part of the property necessary for the pastoral duties.
