DATE OF ELECTIONS DEPENDS ON COOPERATION OF OPPOSITION SIX AND HDZ

ZAGREB, Nov 26 (Hina) - The Opposition Six alliance on Friday held a meeting behind closed doors after which the alliance co-ordinator, president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ivica Racan, told reporters the Opposition Six presidents had suggested three members fir an ethic commission for observing elections and adopted a Declaration on post-electoral cooperation in constituting the Parliament and Government should the results of elections be positive for them. The Declaration will be made public after parliamentary elections are scheduled, Racan said. The Opposition Six suggested into the ethic commission three renowned, non-party persons, Racan said. Asked about the date of elections, Racan said he believed it would not be good for the elections to be held between the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Commenting on Thursday's appearance of vice-president of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Vladimir Seks, on Croatian television, Racan said he hailed Seks's announcement that the HDZ would discuss and consult with the Opposition in an attempt to reach a consensus in determining the date of elections. The date of elections depends on co-operation between the ruling party and the Opposition, Racan said. The Opposition Six comprises six opposition parliament parties, the SDP, Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Croatian People's Party (HNS), Croatian Istrian Assembly (IDS) and the Liberal Party (LS).
