Following a meeting of the Opposition Six this morning, Jakovcic
told reporters the Opposition had considered and accepted the
official invitation of the European Commission to visit Brussels.
The invitation was handed by the EC envoy to Croatia, Peer Vinther.
The Opposition Six are scheduled to visit the NATO headquarters on
November 24 whereas the visit to the EC headquarters is scheduled
for the next day.
Jakovcic said the details of the visit would be agreed on with
colleagues from the EC, but the Opposition Six was expected to meet
the EC commissioner for foreign affairs, Chris Petten.
Asked whether they would meet EC President Romano Prodi, Jakovcic
said the meeting would depend on whether Prodi would have time to
meet them. The Opposition Six will not set any conditions in that
regard, but they believe a meeting with Prodi would be very useful
for Croatia's foreign policy, Jakovcic said.
The Opposition Six today also agreed to request that the European
Union demonstrate an individual approach to Croatia within the
Stability Pact.
The Opposition Six includes the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS),
Social Democratic Party (SDP), Croatian Social-Liberal Party
(HSLS), Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Croatian People's Party
(HNS), and the Liberal Party (LS).
