ZAGREB, Nov 3 (Hina) - Six parties of the Croatian Opposition on
Tuesday demanded from president of the Croatian National Sabor
Vlatko Pavletic to submit a report on Croatian President Franjo
Tudjman's health condition.
The Opposition Six also demanded that the Croatian National Sabor's
House of Representatives be not dismissed on November 12, as it was
expected, but, due to newest circumstances, that it stays in
function until November 28, namely until the end of its mandate.
The demands were presented by coordinator of the Opposition Six
Ivan Jakovcic at the beginning of today's session of the Lower
House, which took place after a short meeting between
representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Croatian
Social Liberal Party (HSLS), the Liberal Party (LS), the Istrian
Democratic Assembly (IDS), the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) and
the Croatian Peoples Party (HNS).
Jakovcic said it was odd that the report on President's health was
forwarded to foreign ambassadors but not to representatives in the
Croatian National Sabor. He stressed that a the Sabor Presidency
meeting should be called urgently.
For the time being, that we should not be alarmed at anything,
president of the Croatian National Sabor Vlatko Pavletic said.
He stressed a doctors' team had already issued two reports on
President Tudjman's health condition, adding that foreign
ambassadors had not been informed of anything else but the context
of the reports.
It is possible that the state President Tudjman is in at the moment,
could change every day, hopefully for the better, Pavletic said,
adding that the doctors' team would continue to inform public of
President Tudjman's health condition. If the recovery goes well,
there is no point to develop different combinations, particularly
here in the Sabor, he stressed.
He reminded that president of the Croatian Constitutional Court
Jadranko Crnic said that the elections would be held in any case.
We will dismiss the House of Representatives, because it was
requested by opposition parties, Pavletic said adding that
elections would be held regardless of circumstances.
Pavletic said that in this situation there was no need for
intimidation which could lead to interior disturbance that could
cause damage to all parties. It is in everyone's interest to have
peaceful and fair elections, Pavletic said, adding that guarantees
for that was the new electoral law regulating greater monitoring of
elections.
