ZAGREB, Oct 27 (Hina) - Coordinator of the Opposition Six Ivan
Jakovcic on Wednesday said that all opportunities for reaching
consensus on the electoral legislature package between the ruling
Croatian Democratic Union and the Opposition Six have gone down the
drain.
The reason for that is President Tudjman failure to answer to the
Opposition six, Jakovcic told reporters ahead of today's session of
the Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives.
At a meeting held on Monday, heads of the Opposition Six said that
President Tudjman gave an unclear answer to a question on
recognising electoral results in an interview with foreign
reporters. The Opposition forwarded a request to President Tudjman
to voice his opinion on the subject clearly by Wednesday.
Jakovcic said it was obvious that the Croatian President claimed
the right to the interpretation of the electoral will of Croatian
citizens, adding that this was the reason that all possibilities
for reaching consensus on the electoral law package went down the
drain.
He stressed that presidents of the six parties of the Croatian
Opposition believed that such development of events decreased
chances for fair and free elections.
