BOSNIAN CROATS SHOULD BE ESNURED RIGHTS THEY DESERVE -- MATESA

ZAGREB, Oct 20 (Hina) - The Croatian Government is not acquainted with the results of Stabilisation Force's action in Mostar, and until be are, we will hold it as a provocation against the Croat people, Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa said Wednesday during question time at the Croatian National Parliament House of Representatives' 43rd session. Matesa was replying to a question posed by Ante Kovacevic of the Croatian Democratic Christian Union (HKDU) whether Croatia's silence about events in Mostar, when SFOR troops burst into administrative buildings and television in the Croat part of Mostar, meant that "we have given up on Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina and are deeming them as a weight on our shoulders". Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina are not "weigh on the shoulders" of the Croatian state, Matesa said, stressing that according to the Dayton Agreement, Croats are a constitutive part of Bosnia- Herzegovina, and must be ensured all rights belonging to them in the light of this fact. It is true that the international community, in the sphere it is involved in Bosnia-Herzegovina, does not show this through its actions, he stressed. The acts of the international community, that is, the SFOR action, give rise to doubts about its justness and purpose, Matesa said. Boris Kandare of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) asked Foreign Minister Mate Granic why he had received for talks Efraim Zuroff who, as he put it, "spoke about the Croatian President in the worst possible way". Granic answered it was a part of his job, as a foreign minister. Zuroff gave these statements after the meeting and I do not concur with them, Granic said. Kandare protested that in a statement issued by the Foreign Minister there was no word about Zuroff's unacceptable conduct, as he had showed up late for the meeting with Justice Minister Separovic. Josko Kontic of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) requested of Granic to comment on a statement by Croatian Presidential advisor for national security Markica Rebic, that "it was harmful for Croatia to enter Europe in the next 15 years". The President selects his advisors himself, in line with the Constitution and laws, as he appoints the Government, Granic said. The strategy of Croatia's foreign policy is clear -- political, economic, security, European and transatlantic associations, he stressed. (hina) lml jn
