ZAGREB, Oct 12 (Hina) - Bozidar Vukasovic, known for his activities
in protecting the interests of Croatian depositors with the
Ljubljanska Banka, on Tuesday protested against the signing of an
agreement on property-rights relations between Croatia and
Slovenia.
Vukasovic today left an open letter to Premier Zlatko Matesa at the
Government building reception desk and addressed reporters in
front of the building.
The agreement on property-rights relations, he said, was signed
despite the agreement saying it would not be possible to manage and
sell Slovene property in Croatia until the issue of the Ljubljanska
Banka was resolved.
Vukasovic accuses Matesa of "having generously forgiven" Slovenia
a debt of DM600 million of savings transferred from the Ljubljanska
Banka.
In his letter to Matesa, Vukasovic hopes "on behalf of tax payers"
that the property-rights relations agreement will not be ratified
by the Croatian National Sabor.
According to data presented by Vukasovic on previous occasions, the
savings accounts of 140,000 Croatian depositors with the
Ljubljanska Banka were blocked in 1991. Some of the depositors
transferred their savings, amounting to DM600 million, to Croatian
banks, whereas another DM309 million of private savings are still
being claimed from the Ljubljanska Banka by Croatian depositors.
Vukasovic repeated there was a possibility for filing a suit
against Slovenia before the European Human Rights Court in
Strasbourg.
He also announced his participation in the upcoming parliamentary
elections as an independent candidate.
