ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - The Croatian-Slovene agreement on property
relations does in no way affect the unsettled issue of Croatian
depositors' savings in Slovenia's Ljubljanska Banka's former
branch in Zagreb, Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa said on Wednesday
in his response to an open letter forwarded to him yesterday by
Bozidar Vukasovic.
Vukasovic, known for his efforts aimed at protecting the interests
of Ljubljanska Banka's Croatian depositors, told reporters in
front of the government building yesterday the property relations
agreement had been signed despite an agreement that it will not be
possible to manage and sell Slovene property in Croatia until the
Ljubljanska Banka issue is settled.
Vukasovic accused Matesa of "generously dispensing" with the
property relations agreement Slovenia's debt for transferred
savings of Ljubljanska Banka, which are worth DM600 million.
In today's response, Premier Matesa said the property relations
agreement, signed with Slovene counterpart Janez Drnovsek on 8
October, did not refer to the regulation of relations with
Ljubljanska Banka's branch in Zagreb, nor relations with the
jointly owned nuclear power plant Krsko.
Those relations will be regulated with a separate agreement, the
Croatian premier said.
He pointed out Croatia would continue negotiating with Slovenia on
all open issues, including Ljubljanska Banka, while simultaneously
taking care of Croatian depositors' interests. Croatia has to that
end suggested the mediation of an international expert, Matesa
said.
The premier also wondered what authority had Vukasovic to address
the Croatian public at all, and stressed in his response that it was
obvious Vukasovic was not property acquainted with the problem.
