ZAGREB, Oct 2 (Hina) - BirdLife International - an association for
bird preservation - has launched an international campaign called
The World Day of Bird Monitoring.#L#
The purpose of this action that is taking place world-wide on
October 2 and 3 under the motto "Ten US Dollars For Every Monitored
Bird" is to acquaint the population with the beauty of birdlife and
a diversity of the habitat of birds.
In Croatia this campaign has been organised by the Croatian Society
for the Bird and Environmental Protection, a partner of the
BirdLife International in Croatia, in collaboration with the
Natural Park Lonjsko Polje in east Croatia.
Birds are going to be monitored all over the country.
This is also the occasion for European Union member-states to
celebrate the 20th anniversary of the EU Birds Directive.
The Japanese telecommunications agency NTT will donate ten (10) US
dollars to BirdLife International for each monitored bird during
the campaign.
A full list of spotted species of birds in Croatia will be compiled
by the Croatian Bird Protection Society which will then forward the
list to Japan.
