CROATIAN-ANGLOAMERICAN CENTRE TO OPEN IN ZAGREB ON THURSDAY

ZAGREB, Sept 21 (Hina) - On the occasion of the opening of the Croatian-AngloAmerican centre in Zagreb, scheduled for Thursday, representatives of the Croatian-American Society (HAD), on Tuesday held a news conference to show programmes aimed at acquainting Croatians with the Anglo-Saxon culture and language. This centre will be opened by U.S. Ambassador to Croatia, William Montgomery. HAD is a non-governmental organisation which will mark its tenth anniversary this spring. Its tasks are to promote ties between the Croatian and American societies in the fields of education, science and culture, said the chairman of the HAD main committee, Nenad Prelog. The head of the HAD section for the promotion of language and culture, Sanja Sarnavka, said new facilities of the centre will make it possible to organise lectures, workshops and round tables. In addition, programmes of teaching English, the Croatian-English linguistic school and programmes of sending students for the further education in the United States have already been carried out by this society. All of them are being implemented without financial support of any government or foundation, she said. (hina) jn ms
