ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - Two basic obstacles for the successful protection of the environment in Croatia are non-existence of an Environment Ministry and a lack of money, said the head of the Croatian state environment administration,
Ante Kutle, on Monday while acquainting journalists with a report on the implementation of the environmental protection in Croatia, drawn up by UN experts during their research on the ground in Croatia. This report was accepted in Geneva on 22 September at the sixth session of the environment committee of the UN economic commission for Europe. ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - Two basic obstacles for the successful
protection of the environment in Croatia are non-existence of an
Environment Ministry and a lack of money, said the head of the
Croatian state environment administration, Ante Kutle, on Monday
while acquainting journalists with a report on the implementation
of the environmental protection in Croatia, drawn up by UN experts
during their research on the ground in Croatia.
This report was accepted in Geneva on 22 September at the sixth
session of the environment committee of the UN economic commission
for Europe.
The UN economic commission will forward this report to the Croatian
Government by next January, while the deadline for its
implementation is one year. After the deadline's expiry, it will be
inspected how the report has been carried out on the ground.
Kutle told reporters that this report would be available to UN and
EU member-states and banks and they can deduce from it whether they
have any interest to invest in Croatia.
Croatia is the last European country to be without the environment
ministry, and the UN recommended its prompt establishment, Kutle
said adding that the state administration fully agreed with it.
Commenting on the financing, Kutle said it was a long-standing
problem, and he expected from the national Sabor to pass legal
regulations on this matter. A lack of money closes the path for
Croatia toward more important presentations in the world and makes
it more difficult for Croatia to get favourable loans for the
ecological protection.
