ZAGREB, Sept 13 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Nenad Porges and
Turkish State Minister Fikret Unlu on Monday opened in Zagreb the
second conference of the Croatian-Turkish Economic Cooperation
Committee.
The two ministers expressed hope for a faster development of mutual
economic relations in which, they said, both countries failed to
use their potentials.
The conference will discuss possibilities of expanding Croatian-
Turkish economic cooperation, ways of increasing trade,
cooperation among banks, and cooperation in the construction of
infrastructural objects.
The modest economic cooperation between Croatia and Turkey,
between US$30 million and 40 million, is "far below the potentials"
of the two countries, said Croatia's Porges.
Minister Unlu said Turkish businessmen were especially interested
in investing in construction, tourism, the power industry,
shipbuilding, the chemical industry, and in agriculture.
Both ministers expressed hope that the end of the Kosovo conflict
would open possibilities for cooperation in transport, especially
by the reinstitution of rail transport.
Talks should also be resumed on the institution of permanent
shipping lines between Rijeka and ports in Turkey.
