ZAGREB, Sept 28 (Hina) - A bill on local government and self-government in Croatia is satisfactory in principle, representatives of the Council of Europe said in Zagreb Tuesday. The experts of the Council of Europe's congress of local
and regional authorities, Heinrich Hoffschulte, Nicholas Levrat and Rinaldo Locatelli, on Tuesday discussed that matter with Croatian Minister for European Integration Ljerka Mintas-Hodak. "The first draft proposal on the change of the system of local government and self-government was well received and it is on the line of standards and expectations of the Council of Europe", Mintas-Hodak stressed. government in Croatia is satisfactory in principle,
representatives of the Council of Europe said in Zagreb Tuesday.
The experts of the Council of Europe's congress of local and
regional authorities, Heinrich Hoffschulte, Nicholas Levrat and
Rinaldo Locatelli, on Tuesday discussed that matter with Croatian
Minister for European Integration Ljerka Mintas-Hodak.
"The first draft proposal on the change of the system of local
government and self-government was well received and it is on the
line of standards and expectations of the Council of Europe",
Mintas-Hodak stressed.
Main Secretary of the Congress Rinaldo Locatelli stressed that by
joining the Council of Europe Croatia committed itself that it
would resolve the position of a county in relation to the state. He
also said that Croatia committed itself to the cooperation among
countries in the region, in line with the Convention signed by
Croatia.
Locatelli said that the bill on local government and self-
government was in principle satisfactory, however, details such as
finances and taxation, will be discussed after the elections in
Croatia.
The Croatian Government Public and Media Relations Office reported
that the experts of the Council of Europe expressed satisfaction
about the development of local self-government in Croatia.
Minister Mintas-Hodak expressed Croatia's readiness to continue
cooperation with the Council of Europe.
