ZAGREB, Sept 22 (Hina) - A project for a reform of the public health
and health insurance system is near completion after one-and-a-
half-year-long work, said Croatia's Health Minister Zeljko Reiner
at Wednesday's session of the project's council gathering experts
from medicine, politics and other sectors and professions who are
carrying out this task.
One of main changes predicted by the project is the way for
financing public health from three sources.
The first source will remain contributions, but they will be cut
from the current 18 percent to 10 percent, and this may enable the
economy to gain momentum.
The second source will be the state budget which should ensure means
for children's health protection, elderly people and for
preventive medicine.
The third source will be additional insurance, but it is necessary
to define exactly what compulsory insurance should be and what the
private, supplementary one is, Minister Reiner said.
After this project has been completed, the Croatian National Sabor
and Government are to discuss it. A public discussion will be also
necessary, according to Reiner.
