ZAGREB, Sept 3 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HHO) and the Croatian Movement for Democracy and Social Justice on Friday presented to reporters in Zagreb a joint statement in which they ask that the Croatian
parliament initiate proceedings to relieve Croatian President Franjo Tudjman of duty. The two organisations say in the statement that "a wrong policy from the beginning is the main cause for all of Croatia's problems; the division of Bosnia, the reconciliation between the Ustashi and the partisans, the transition to the creation of 200 wealthy families, and non-compliance with a Constitution which is insufficiently democratic." ZAGREB, Sept 3 (Hina) - The Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human
Rights (HHO) and the Croatian Movement for Democracy and Social
Justice on Friday presented to reporters in Zagreb a joint
statement in which they ask that the Croatian parliament initiate
proceedings to relieve Croatian President Franjo Tudjman of duty.
The two organisations say in the statement that "a wrong policy from
the beginning is the main cause for all of Croatia's problems; the
division of Bosnia, the reconciliation between the Ustashi and the
partisans, the transition to the creation of 200 wealthy families,
and non-compliance with a Constitution which is insufficiently
democratic."
The statement further says that "because of President Tudjman's
policy, Croatia has found itself in the most difficult position
since its international recognition."
The current Croatian government is accused of "looting, corrupting
and sinking the country into poverty."
The HHO and the Movement, which is headed by Ivan Supek, believe it
is obvious that President Tudjman and the ruling Croatian
Democratic Union are not willing to ensure conditions for fair
elections, expected by year's end, or to respect their results.
