The festival's organiser highly commended Papic by including the
Croatian motion picture in the World Greats category, alongside
works by Werner Herzog, Bernard Tavernier, Miklos Jancsa, and
Micheal Cacoyannis.
The audience also liked the film making it, according to the
organiser, the most seen in the four days of the festival.
Film critics of renowned Montreal daily The Gazette singled Papic's
film among 27 which should not be missed.
In the wake of the success at the Montreal Film Festival, "When the
Dead Start Singing" has been invited to several other festivals,
including a European film festival in Strasbourg in November.
This year's Montreal Film Festival reached an apogee - with a
selection of almost 400 films from last year's world production it
now ranks among the most important film festivals in the world.
