Closing on August 15, the festival in the northern Adriatic port of
Pula is featuring five domestic motion pictures - "Bogorodica"
(Mother of God) by Neven Hitrec, "Da mi je biti morski pas" (Wish I
Were a Shark) by Ognjen Svilicic, "Crvena prasina" (Red Dust) by
Zrinko Ogresta, and "Garcia" by Dean Sorko, besides Senecic's
work.
By this festival, which serves as an occasion for watching and
judging the production of Croatia's films during one year, the
tradition is uphold and Croatia's authorities attach great
importance to this, said Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic at the
ceremonial opening which he attended as the special envoy of
Croatia's President Franjo Tudjman under whose auspices the Pula
festival is being held.
The Culture Ministry greets all fresh initiatives (in the movie
industry) such as that festival in Split or new film festivals in
Istria, but it (the Ministry) especially cares about Croatian film,
Biskupic added.
The festival will also feature a retrospective of Croatian films
from the 1960s, medium-length films by younger authors, a round
table called "Who Are the Right Holders to Croatian Films", and a
photography exhibition by Damir Hoyka.
