Croatian passenger transport down, cargo transport up in H1 2011

ZAGREB, Aug 18 (Hina) - Passenger transport in Croatia was reduced by 7.4% in the first half of 2011 as against the H1 2010, and according to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, a total of 64.46 million passengers travelled by rail, road, sea and air in the first half of this year.

Rail transport accounted for nearly half (49.7%) of that amount. As many as 32.06 million passengers were transported by rail in the H1 2001 in Croatia, which was a 9.8% decline in comparison to the rail transport of passengers in the H1 2010, according to figures released on Thursday.

Road passenger transport made up 41.8%, that is, 26.9 million passengers travelled by road, which was a 6.8% reduction on the year.

Sea transport of passengers went up 3.4% to 4.5 million, which was a 7.1% share in the total passenger transport in the H1 2011.

Air passenger transport went up 16.1% to 915,000 passengers, which was a 1.4% share in in the H1 2011 total passenger transport.

Croatia's 2011 H1 cargo transport increased by 4.8% in comparison to the first half of 2010. From the beginning of January to the end of June this year, 61.5 million tonnes of cargo was transported in Croatia.

Road cargo transport increased by 8.8% to 35.4 million tonnes.

Sea transport of cargo went down by 0.6% to 15.8 million tonnes.
