Over 46,000 Serbian tourists registered in Croatia in H1 2011

BELGRADE, Aug 14 (Hina) - A total of 46,592 Serbian nationals vacationed in Croatia's coastal resorts in the first half of 2011, making 256,780 overnight stays, which was 6% more than in 2010, the Belgrade-based "Vecernje Novosti" reported on Sunday.

According to estimates of the Croatian tourist sector, the number of Serbians vacationing in Croatia by the end of the season is likely to rise to 100,000, a 15% increase.

They are expected to spend over 50 million euros in Croatian resorts by the end of the high season.

Serbian travel agencies were quoted as reporting that resorts in Istria and Kvarner, such as Porec and Rovinj, are the most attractive destinations for Serbian tourists. Tour operators have noted that journeys to Croatia have been most frequently individually organised.

The daily said that the Croatian National Tourist Board had informed it that Croatia had spent some EUR 230,000 for advertising its Adriatic destinations in Serbia this year. Of that amount, 130,000 euros were provided for television advertising, and the rest for advertisements on billboards in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Subotica.
