STARA GRADISKA, Aug 12 (Hina) - A pontoon border crossing between
Croatia and Republika Srpska, Bosnia's Serb entity, was opened on
Thursday. The pontoon bridge across the Sava river connects Stara
Gradiska, Croatia, and Bosanska Gradiska, Bosnia.#L#
The bridge was set up by engineers of the Croatian and RS armies,
under the coordination of Hungarian engineers, members of NATO's
Stabilisation Force (SFOR) in Bosnia.
The temporary pontoon bridge will be open for passenger traffic by
car, minibus, and small lorries, with a maximum speed of ten
kilometres per hour. Traffic will be allowed between 6 a.m. and 7
p.m. during August, September, and October, and between 7 a.m. and 5
p.m. during November and December.
The pontoon bridge will be in use until the reconstruction of the
Stara Gradiska-Bosanska Gradiska bridge is completed later this
year.
Michael Hryshchyshyn, senior adviser with the international
community's high representative for Bosnia, said the opening of the
pontoon bridge was very important for relations between the two
countries, especially for Bosnia's economy, for cultural and other
relations.
Also present were SFOR deputy commander General Michael Willcocks,
Croatia's Assistant Minister for Relations with Bosnia-
Herzegovina Franjo Blazevic, and the head of Bosnia's directorate
for transport rehabilitation, Nemanja Djurovic.
