ZAGREB, Aug 10 (Hina) - In the past eight months the Croatian
Privatisation Fund (HFP) directly invested about 40 million kunas
into Croatia Line.
This was largely in the form of short term assistance to that
shipping company and all in an attempt to avoid what is presently
occurring to that company.
These funds were amongst other thingss, intended for salary
payments said the Privatisation Fund's president Stipe Hrkac at a
press conference organised Tuesday by the Fund.
The conference was convened, as Hrkac explained, in response to the
frequent media attacks against HFP.
Without long term state subsidies which exist elsewhere in the
world, Croatia Line will not be able to survive regardless of the
fact whether the current problems are temporarily solved or not,
Hrkac said.
As far as the problem of the Rijeka port is concerned, Hrkac said
that according to current legislature, the port is a priority for
concession. Any other solution could only be possible if the
current legislature is not amended.
Hrkac believes that Rijeka's mayor Slavko Linic is responsible for
the current situation at the Rijeka Port. According to Hrkac, if the
current law on state officials is taken in mind, Linic should not
even be part of the port's administration. "Linic is opting for Port
Rijeka's bankruptcy, i.e. it's downfall, because he, or rather, a
small group around him, are interested in offering a concession to
someone else. The solution Linic is offering does not offer any
guarantees and is in fact ludicrous", Hrkac said.
Referring to the problems in the printing industry and "Tiskare
Rijeka", Privatisation Fund president Hrkac said that he has asked
for a review of the printer's activities for the past three years,
in order to establish just what the current status of the company
is.
