ZAGREB, July 26 (Hina) - Croatian President's adviser for political
issues and the head of the National Trust Building Committee, Vesna
Skare-Ozbolt, on Monday received the recently appointed head of the
OSCE Mission in Croatia, Bernard Ponchet, in his inaugural visit,
President Franjo Tudjman's office said in a statement.
During the talks both interlocutors pointed to the successful
cooperation between Croatian authorities and the OSCE
(Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe) Mission in
the country.
Vesna Skare-Ozbolt assessed that the cooperation with the OSCE had
been good in the previous period and voiced hope that new quality in
the ties between her country and OSCE would be reached by the end of
the mandate. These ties should be based not only on the work of the
Mission's staff on the ground but also on the strengthening of the
mutual dialogue, the exchange of experts and harmonisation of
Croatia's institutions and laws with European standards.
She stressed that Croatia was achieving noticeable progress in the
field of return, but expectations are sometimes too high and each
step forward depends on overcoming psychological barriers and
economic difficulties, cased by the war and Serbian aggression,
Skare-Ozbolt explained.
Ponchet said the OSCE Mission put a great importance on the
implementation of a process of normalising relations and life in
all war-stricken areas, where the process of return is under way.
This diplomat said it was necessary that local authorities be more
active in building confidence, the statement read.
