VIS VIS, July 11 (Hina) - More archaeological finds of the Issa theatre have recently been discovered on the southern Croatian island of Vis. According to Split archaeologists who found remains, a stand of the Roman theatre from the
1st century AD has been unearthed.

In addition, many mosaic fragments, capitals of Roman columns and
sculptures which ornamented the interior of the theatre have been
found.
The finds should be reconstructed by the end of this year.
The research and digging on archaeological sites on Vis are being
financed by Croatian Culture Ministry.
The island's early settlers gave it the name "Issa", later it was
called "Lissa" in the Latin/Roman/Italian version while the Croat
name "Vis" was first mentioned in 950 AD.
