RABAT, July 7 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic and
Moroccan counterpart Mohamed Benaissa discussed the advancement of
relations between Croatia and Morocco in Rabat on Wednesday.
The two ministers also signed agreements on maritime and air
transport between Croatia and Morocco, a protocol on cooperation
between the two countries' foreign ministries, and an agreement on
the revocation of visas for diplomatic and official passports.
"Morocco is a moderate Islamic and Arab country which has a big
influence within the Islamic and Arabic world," Minister Granic,
who arrived in Morocco on Tuesday, told reporters.
During talks with Granic, Benaissa said Morocco was interested in
stronger political, economic, and cultural cooperation with
Croatia. Croatia should become a land of hope for the region it is
located in, he said.
Granic reminded reporters of the positive role Morocco had played
during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He said the fact that like
Croatia, Morocco is also a Mediterranean country, further
motivated Croatia to develop mutual relations.
"We believe we shall continue to successfully cooperate in the
bilateral, and even more in the multilateral field with Morocco,"
Granic said.
During talks, the two foreign ministers focused on the
insufficiently developed economic relations, and assessed there
exist significant possibilities to advance them. Trade between the
two countries revolves around a mere US$20 million, with Croatia's
import of US$18 million.
By year's end, the two countries are expected to sign an agreement
on the mutual stimulation of investments and the avoidance of
double taxation.
Today, Minister Granic also met with Moroccan Deputy Premier Ahmed
Lahlimi. Premier Abderrahman Youssoufi was unable to receive him
due to illness.
