ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - A member of the Croatian Sabor's Committee for Internal Affairs and National Security, Jozo Rados, on Friday suggested to the Committee's president Ivan Milas to call an extraordinary session at which the head
of the Croatian Intelligence Service (HIS) analytical department, Mario Baljkas, would be heard, so that insight could be gained into a list of all documents which were to be transferred at the hand over of Baljkas's office, which was to take place on Thursday. ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - A member of the Croatian Sabor's Committee
for Internal Affairs and National Security, Jozo Rados, on Friday
suggested to the Committee's president Ivan Milas to call an
extraordinary session at which the head of the Croatian
Intelligence Service (HIS) analytical department, Mario Baljkas,
would be heard, so that insight could be gained into a list of all
documents which were to be transferred at the hand over of Baljkas's
office, which was to take place on Thursday.
In a letter to Milas, Rados reminds of a letter Baljkas sent
yesterday to the Committee, describing the circumstances of the
failed hand-over of his office at the HIS. Baljkas concludes in the
letter that "it was an attempt, and possibly a fait accompli, to
remove evidence on illegal activities of a part of the intelligence
system".
Baljkas also said the hand-over of his office had been "forbidden"
by an assistant to the HIS director, Djurdja Susak, already after
everything had been agreed on regarding the hand-over procedure and
after a document had been compiled removing all doubts regarding
the legality of the procedure.
"Since this is a very serious claim regarding the possible abuse in
a very important segment of the Croatian intelligence and security
system, I propose that you call an extraordinary session of the
Committee", the letter read.
Rados, a member of the Croatian Social-Liberal Party (HSLS), added
his proposal was supported by MPs and Committee members Antun Vujic
(Social Democratic Party, SDP), Zlatko Tomcic (Croatian Peasants'
Party, HSS) and Damir Kajin (Istrian Democratic Assembly, IDS).
