Committee on Saturday morning commenced a session in the "Vatroslav
Lisinski" Hall in Zagreb with a ceremony of conferring the party's
charter of gratitude on the President of Croatia and the ruling HDZ,
Franjo Tudjman.
On behalf of the HDZ Main Committee and all bodies of the party, an
HDZ Vice-President, Vladimir Seks, handed over the charter to
Tudjman, saying that Franjo Tudjman was the first Croatian
statesman to finish the centuries-long struggle for the
independence of the Croatian people and state.
He established the HDZ as a comprehensive, people's party which

Thanking for the charter, Tudjman said he took it as the credit
given to the entire Croatian people who followed a sign set up in
that programme of the HDZ.
The HDZ Secretary-General, Drago Krpina, welcomed all present at
the event including numerous guests and delegations of political
parties with programmes similar to the HDZ's one from Germany,
Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, Macedonia,
representatives of DEMYC (European Democratic Christian Youth) and
many ambassadors accredited in Croatia.
At the very beginning of the session, Croatia's national anthem was
struck up, and the gathered observed a minute of silence paying
tribute to all who gave their lives for the free and independent
Croatia and all late HDZ members.
Today Tudjman is to deliver a speech on "Historic Achievements and
HDZ's Future Role."
A score party's and state high-ranking officials will then address
the session commenting on most important issues in Croatia.
A discussion is also included into the agenda of the session.
The HDZ is expected to set up a working group for drawing up the
election programme.
In addition to over 400 members of the HDZ Main Committee, HDZ
parliamentary deputies, government members, the HDZ main
secretariat, members of HDZ local committees as well as of those in
the Diaspora are attending this session.
