ZAGREB, June 9 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ)
National Council, which consists of the party Presidency and the
Main and National Committees' councils, on Wednesday held a session
under the chairmanship of party president Franjo Tudjman.
Among other issues, the session tackled political causes and
consequences of a suit an HDZ member Miroslav Kutle filed with the
State Attorney's Office against two HDZ members - Premier Zlatko
Matesa and Croatian National Bank Governor Marko Skreb - charging
them with serious criminal acts, the HDZ Main Secretariat said in a
statement on Wednesday evening.
Not wishing to interfere in the work of competent state bodies, the
Main Council has estimated that Kutle's act was primarily an attack
against the highest state and party officials, who, by performing
their tasks, implemented HDZ's policy.
At the same time, Kutle's act is an attempt to publicly discredit
the HDZ and the whole state leadership.
In that regard, the National Council concluded that Miroslav Kutle
had caused political damage to HDZ's reputation as well as to
Croatia's international reputation and status.
Because of that, the National Council decided to oust Miroslav
Kutle from the HDZ.
Today's meeting of the National Council also discussed cases of
abuse and manipulation regarding the giving out and publishing of
state secrets, which is aimed at politically discrediting the
party.
In that regard, the National Council expects and demands that all
competent state bodies, acting within their jurisdiction and in
line with the law, efficiently and uncompromisingly secure respect
for lawfulness and start establishing personal responsibility in
every individual case, the statement read.
