VUKOVAR STAGE PROTEST VUKOVAR, June 16 (Hina) - Employees of Croatian Radio Vukovar (HRV) on Wednesday stopped broadcasting their news programme and all other programmes except for advertisments due to financial problems and neglect
of the station's founders and owners. The fourteen HRV employees demand normal salaries, instead of the guaranteed wages they have been receiving since June 1997, as well as money for the operation of the station. In order to inform their listeners about the protest, which will not cease until their requests are met, the employees will read out a statement with the requests regularly during HRV music programmes. In a statement to Hina, HRV director Zeljko Fekete said unresolved property relations were the most serious problem. Radio Vukovar started broadcasting its programme on March 8, 1957. In early May 1991, it was renamed into Croatian Radio Vukovar. After
the occupation of the town by the Serbian troops and its heroic role
during the siege of the town, HRV continued working in exile and
broadcast an hour-long daily programme from the offices of the
Vinkovci radio station.
The radio returned to Vukovar on December 23, 1997.
