AVERAGE SALARY IN BH FEDERATION IN MAY - 375 CONVERTIBLE MARKS

SARAJEVO, June 15 (Hina) - The average salary in Bosnia's Croat-Muslim entity in May 1999 amounted to 375 convertible marks, whereas the employment rate amounted to almost 65 per cent of the 1991 employment rate, head of the Bureau for Statistics of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Munira Zahiragic, said in Sarajevo on Tuesday. According to the latest data, there were 407,000 employees in April, however, 66,000 of them were lays-off because their factories had been destroyed in the war and will not be able to employ them again. In the same month, 262,000 citizens were registered with the Employment Bureau. The average consumer goods basket in the Federation in May cost just below 450 marks, which is a 2 per cent increase compared to April. In the same month, the Federation exported goods worth US$28 million or 14 per cent more than in the same period in 1998, and imported goods worth almost US$130 million. The Bureau for Statistics confirmed that Croatia is still Bosnia's most important foreign trade partner.
