The Sodolovci Group were indicted of shelling eastern Croatian towns of Djakovo, Kesinci, Koritna, Mrzovići, Semeljci and Vladislavci from July 1991 until May 1992, as members of the Teritorial Defence which was part of the Yugoslav People's Army. They did not choose military targets at the time. Ten persons were killed and about 30 injured during the attacks, and great collateral damage was caused. During the trial in absentia in 1995, they had been found guilty, but, at their request, the Croatian Supreme Court last year allowed a retrial and that they be set free on bail, except Goran Vusurovic who was kept in confinement. Panel of Judges president Ante Budic said that after the testimonies of numerous witnesses, forensic scientists, the court had decided that the new trial had not found any new evidence to change the verdict. The convicted have the right to file appeals on the verdict within 15 days. Attorneys for Dragutin Mijoc and Jovan Grubesic said the vertict was "shocking" and "legally unsustainable", and announced an appeal to the Supreme Court. They held there were no facts or proof to support such a verdict. (hina) lml jn
