ZAGREB, May 26 (Hina) - A Croatian President's envoy, Interior Minister Ivan Penic, on Wednesday awarded 163 police officers with "Vukovar Memorial Medals" for their contributions in the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube
region. Congratulating the police officers, Penic said that, following the Croatian police and military operations "Flash" and "Storm" which liberated occupied territories in south and central Croatia, the decision on the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube region was a political decision which saved many lives. He stressed the Croatian police had accepted about 1,500 members of the local "militia", many of whom have left as they could not accept Croatian police uniforms. Police presence in the Danube region is greater than in other parts of Croatia, but their conduct is professional and equal towards every person, Penic stressed.(hina) lml jn
