HSLS Main Council president Ivo Skrabalo reminded the establishment of the HSLS in Zagreb on May 20, 1989, was the beginning of a multiparty system and the foundation for a democratic alternative to the communist authorities in Croatia of that time. Addressing a special convention of the party's Main Council, HSLS
president Drazen Budisa said he believed the HSLS, after ten years
of political activity, could show what it is capable of by winning
the impending elections in association with other parties from the
Opposition Six group.
HSLS Main Council president Ivo Skrabalo reminded the
establishment of the HSLS in Zagreb on May 20, 1989, was the
beginning of a multiparty system and the foundation for a
democratic alternative to the communist authorities in Croatia of
that time.
Budisa asserted the latest polls showed the HSLS enjoys the support
of 10 percent of the electoral body.
Speaking about the Opposition Six, he said there exist differences
which need to be acknowledged. He stressed the HSLS will nurture
mutual partner relations within the Opposition Six, which also
includes the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Croatian People's
Party, the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), the Istrian Democratic
Assembly, and the Liberal Party.
Also attending today's special convention were SDP president Ivica
Racan and HSS president Zlatko Tomcic. Nobody from the ruling
Croatian Democratic Union was present.
