ZAGREB, May 10 (Hina) - Representatives of a group of six Croatian
opposition parties on Monday criticised a motion made by the
president of the ruling party's parliamentary bench to have
parliamentary parties' representatives meet somewhere outside
Zagreb and stay in session until a consensus was reached regarding a
new electoral law.
The ruling Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) Vladimir Seks on
Friday sent a letter with this proposal to the Opposition Six in
reply to opposition coordinator Luka Trconic's request to have the
HDZ submit, before talks resumed, its stand in writing on the
proposals presented by the presidents of the Croatian Social
Liberal Party (HSLS), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the
Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) during their talks with Croatian and
HDZ President Franjo Tudjman.
Representatives of the HSLS, the SDP, the Liberal Party, and the HSS
are contrary to a possible cessation of talks on the new electoral
law.
They are also contrary to the possibility that the next elections be
scheduled between Christmas and the New Year, given the possibility
that election day be a holiday.
The opposition's Trconic said on Monday Seks' letter had not solved
the contentious situation which resulted from the different
interpretations the opposition and Seks gave of HSLS and SDP
leaders' talks with President Tudjman.
