ZAGREB, May 19 (Hina) - The public should by June be introduced with
a document of pre-recommendations for adapations for Croatia to
access European intergrations. This will form the basis of our
national strategy to access European integrations, said Ivan
Debelic of the Department for Strategic Planning and Poltical
Adaption in the government's Office for European Integrations, at a
conference, "Influences of Economic Adaptations on Croatian
Entreupreneurship", held at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce on
Wednesday.
A consultant to the Croatian Government, Dr. Alan Mayhew a British
professor from the University of Sussex and a British "Know How"
fund consultant spoke about the problems of changing business
standards which Croatia should adopt if it wishes to access
European integrations.
Mayhew emphasised that it was necessary for Croatia to have a clear
plan of adapting to European regulations which should decrease
deformities in the ecnommy and price adjustments.
Croatia alone can decide which path to take towards integrations,
and this process should be strictly controlled, note Mayhew, adding
that support to such processes should come from the highest levels
of the government along with cooperation from the business sector.
Recalling basic conditions which Croatia is required to fulfill
before accessing European integrations - achieving macro-economic
stability and economic growth as well as a democracy and rule of
rights - Mayhew said that it was vital that Croatia determined its
own priorities as well as the costs of adjustments and how this
would affect the state budget, business and citizens themselves.
Speaking on reforms and adjustments in Croatia's economy, Mayhew
stress the need to decrease the influence of the state on the
economy as well as the need to liberalise the market using the
example of Croatian Telecommunications as an indicator of this form
of liberalisation.
By accepting EU regulations, Croatian businessmen will be faced
with strong competition but at the same time, security and and open
market ensuring the entire Croatian market access to foreign
investments, Mayhew concluded.
