ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - The presidents of two Croatian opposition
parties on Tuesday said in a joint statement they have been "puzzled
by some statements, in particular those made by Vladimir Seks,
which subsequently make the contents of yesterday's agreement
(with the Croatian President about the electoral model)
relative".
Drazen Budisa of the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) and Ivica
Racan of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) said Seks made a
statement saying "the agreement does not represent the rescinding"
of a so called separate list for the Diaspora or a separate
electoral unit.
"We have reached an agreement to ensure the election of six
representatives among Croatian citizens not residing in the
Republic of Croatia, through proportionate elections, via party
and other electoral lists, and in keeping with electoral results.
"This agreement has also been outlined in our statements to
reporters immediately after the meeting with (President) Franjo
Tudjman," Budisa and Racan said in their statement, adding they
have been "puzzled by some statements, in particular those made by
Vladimir Seks, who took part in yesterday's talks."
The two opposition leaders also said further talks aimed at
adjusting views on electoral legislation would continue, as
agreed, and pointed out they "expect it will be along the line of
yesterday's agreements.
"In the contrary, the truthfulness of the talks and the agreements
with the President of the Republic and the leadership of the
(ruling) HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) will be betrayed."
