SARAJEVO, April 27 (Hina) - Bosnia-Herzegovina's Foreign Minister
Jadranko Prlic has anticipated better days for his country after
the end of the Kosovo crisis, on condition that the Dayton Accords
are being implemented.
On Tuesday Prlic held a news conference in Sarajevo upon his arrival
from Washington where he had attended NATO's summit.
He told reporters that Bosnia, just as all other countries
bordering with Yugoslavia (Serbia/Montenegro), had received firm
guarantees from NATO that it would be absolutely protected from the
spill over of the current conflict in the region.
Following the resolution of the Kosovo crisis, the implementation
of many numerous, until recently unthinkable, initiatives can
ensue, Prlic predicted.
If the joint institutions in Bosnia function and if conclusion of
the Madrid conference on the conduct of Dayton Agreement are
carried out, huge possibilities will be open for Bosnia, he added.
This refers primarily to the approach toward European integration
institutions and the acceleration of the current transition
processes, Prlic explained.
The foreign minister assessed it would be very important that the
entire region from Hungary and Slovenia to Greece and Turkey, with
an aim of avoiding new dangerous divisions in Europe, be included
into the process of coming closer to the European Union.
He added that it was realistic to expect a donors' conference for
Bosnia, scheduled for the mid-May. In addition to proposed 850
million dollars earmarked for Bosnia's reconstruction, the
conference may decide to set aside another resources for the
compensation for damage inflicted on Bosnia by the Yugoslav
crisis.
Prlic said it was necessary for Bosnia to achieve soon a new
agreement on the trading cooperation with Croatia, in line with
principles reigning in trade between central European countries.
He told reporters that talks were under way for holding a meeting of
the Interstate Council for the Cooperation between Bosnia and
Croatia. He announced a visit of Croatian Prime Minister Zlatko
Matesa to Sarajevo for May.
