SPLIT SPLIT, Apr 19 (Hina) - A two-day international scientific conference on Croatia's late medieval writer Marko Marulic began in the southern port of Split on Monday as part of this year's annual manifestation, The Marulic Days.
The conference, entitled "Marko Marulic, Croatian Poet and Catholic Humanist: A Suggestion for the Europe of the Third Millennium", is the second part of an eponymous international conference held at the Gregoriana University in Rome between November 26 and 29 last year. The conference was organised by the Papal Council for Culture, the Papal St. Jerome's Croatian Institute in Rome, and the Split-based Marulianum, a centre for studies on Marulic and his humanistic circle. According to a statement from the Papal Council for Culture, the aim
of the conference is to focus on Marulic from various points of

legacy as a possible humanistic model for the next millennium.
Addresses will be made by the most eminent Marulic scholars from
Croatia, Italy, Germany, France, and Hungary.
Expected later in the day is the presentation of a Marulic monograph
by Mirko Tomasovic, and the opening of "Marulic Days - Croatian
Drama Festival" at Split's Croatian National Theatre.
