MORE RETURNEES THAN DISPLACED PEOPLE IN OSIJEK-BARANJA COUNTY

OSIJEK-BARANJA COUNTY OSIJEK, April 23 (Hina) - In eastern Croatian county of Osijek-Baranja, there are 15,642 displaced people, 2,074 refugees and less than 2,000 dislocated persons. Of those evicted during the Serb aggression, 15,739 have already returned to the County. Since the outbreak of the refugee crisis in 1991 the number of returnees has been for the first time higher than the figures of displaced people and refugees, Nada Arbanas, a local official in charge of the matter, told Hina, on Friday. She added that a certain number of families had come back to their towns and villages but had not yet regulated their status. Therefore it can be assessed that in Osijek County there are actually more returnees by ten percent than official figures show. Last October Hungary decided to annul the refugee status for Croatian citizens and after that virtually all Croatian refugees left Hungary and returned
