ZAGREB, April 21 (Hina) - An agreement on the cultural exchange and
cooperation, which I signed with Romanian Culture Minister Jon
Karamaton, opens possibilities for the establishment of closer
cooperation between Croatian and Rumanian cultural institutions,
said Bozo Biskupic, the Croatian Culture Minister, upon his return
from Romania, on Wednesday.
The cooperation primarily referred to the strengthening of ties
between societies of writers in the two countries, the cooperation
between museums and galleries, national and other libraries and
publishing houses, the Minister explained.
He added that the talks in Bucharest had revolved also around the
making of Croatia-Romanian and Romanian-Croatian dictionaries,
the exchange of exhibitions and musical groups and the cooperation
in the area of the cultural heritage.
Biskupic stressed that the two countries would cooperate in the
implementation of conventions on preventing smuggling of movable
art assets.
He added that Croatia and Romania would advocate projects at the
Council of Europe and UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organisation (UNESCO) relating to the cultural heritage in the two
countries.
One of such projects is the renovation of the Banloc castle near
Timisoara, which used to be property of Croatian family
"Draskovic". The reconstruction is being carried out with the
assistance of the Council of Europe.
The agreement signed by the two ministers also covers the promotion
of cultural projects among the Croatian minority in Romania and the
Romanian minority in Croatia.
During his stay in Romania, Biskupic toured Bucharest and
Timisoara.
