BAJAKOVO, April 20 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Ivan Penic
confirmed Tuesday police on Monday apprehended the police
commissioner of the 4th police precinct in Borovo Naselje (eastern
Croatia), Croatian Serb Dragisa Cancarevic.
There have for a long time been suspicions that Cancarevic had
during the war in Croatia in 1991 treated civilians and war
prisoners inhumanely in the former local community centre in Borovo
Naselje which was at the time turned into a prison by Serbs, Penic
said.
"There are indications and suspicions which can be confirmed by 12
witnesses," Penic said during Tuesday's visit to the Bajakovo
crossing point on the border with Yugoslavia.
Pointing out that war crimes do not have a statute of limitations,
which is proved by ongoing trials for crimes committed in World War
II, Penic said all criminals will be held accountable regardless of
whether they are in Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina or the Croatian
Danubian region.
The world has the strength and it cannot allow someone who committed
crimes to be free, Penic said.
Dragisa Cancarevic was arrested in Vinkovci on Monday.
