CLASHES BETWEEN SERB AND ALBANIAN FORCES IN NORTH KOSOVO

SKOPJE, April 8 (Hina) - Albanian sources in Pristina have reported fighting between Serbian and Albanian forces in the areas of Kosovska Mitrovica and Podujevo in the north of Kosovo, where some 70,000 ethnic Albanians are being surrounded by the Serbian army and police. There are a few enclaves in the north of Kosovo where Serbs have not managed to break through. Sources of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) added that its fighters had succeeded in regaining some of their previous positions. Some fear about the fate of several tens of thousands ethnic Albanians who were forced by the Serbian army and police to return from the border after they had not managed to cross the frontier and find shelter in other countries. Albanian political parties in Macedonia helped refugees from Kosovo to be accommodated in homes of Macedonian Albanians in Skopje, Tetovo and throughout this tiny country. Accor

Albanian political parties in Macedonia helped refugees from Kosovo to be accommodated in homes of Macedonian Albanians in Skopje, Tetovo and throughout this tiny country. According to official figures, Macedonia has so far hosted at least 130,000 Kosovans. After Migjen Kelmendi, a representative of Kosovo Albanian media held talks at the German Foreign Ministry and British Foreign Office, he gave an interview to the BBC Radio in the programme in the Albanian language on Thursday. Kelmendi said the latest Serbian offensive had destroyed the basic system of broadcasting in Albanian in Kosovo. According to him, Western officials pledged to help set up an Albanian information centre in Macedonia, dedicated on collecting and offering relevant information about Kosovo. A daily or a radio station with programme for Kosovo is also to be established. (hina) ms
