SARAJEVO, April 2 (Hina) - On the eve of Easter, Cardinal Vinko
Puljic, who is the Archbishop of Sarajevo, called on the Catholic
faithful in Bosnia-Herzegovina to seek the support in the faith in
the resurrected Christ during these hard times, and called on
authorities in the country to fulfil pledges they made prior to the
elections and protect the security and identity of every man.
I call on those, who gained the confidence of people, to ensure the
return of all displaced people and refugees to this country and
create conditions for good prospects and security, Puljic told a
news conference in Sarajevo on Friday.
The Church's dignitary asked the international community to take
more efforts in order protect the ordinary man, his dignity and
rights.
He told reporters that even three years after the end of the war,
many people in Bosnia-Herzegovina were still being dismissed from
job or expelled from their flats only because of their names and
nationality, and warned that it was just an impermissible
continuation of the ethnic cleansing brutally carried out during
the war.
The Cardinal voiced solidarity with all those who suffer due to the
current developments in Yugoslavia (Serbia/Montenegro). He also
warned that the increasing inflow of refugees might additionally
burden the difficult situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
I am so sorry that political negotiations have not yielded results,
so that at last it has had to be resorted to bombardment. I would
like it had not happened, Msgr. Puljic said.
Cardinal Puljic and Auxiliary Bishop of Sarajevo, Pero Sudar, have
also forwarded an Easter message saying that no one should ignore
the harsh reality in the post-war period.
The two Roman Catholic dignitaries stressed they were particularly
stricken by attempts to negate the identity and origins of Croats-
Catholics in the country.
Huge means are being invested, of which Catholics have received
little, and there is no peace and there cannot be it, since it
(peace) is not being built on the justice, read the Easter message.
