PARIS, Mar 16 (Hina) - A Croatian parliamentary delegation composed
of members of the finances and state budget committee on Tuesday
arrived in Paris for a two-day official visit to France.
The delegation, headed by MP Djuro Njavro, held talks on
cooperation with members of the French parliament's Committee for
Finances, Economy, and the Budget. Taking part in the talks were
committee chairman Augustin Bonrepaux and deputy chairman Yves
Tavernier.
The representatives of the two parliaments' committees exchanged
information on their work, in particular on plans for passing state
budgets.
The officials agreed about the necessity of developing
parliamentary cooperation between Croatia and France.
This is the first meeting of the two countries' parliamentary
delegations.
Croatian delegates said they expected France's understanding and
support in the achievement of Croatia's short-term foreign
political goals, which are access to the World Trade Organisation,
to the PHARE programme, and a more favourable agreement with the
European Union.
On Wednesday, the Croatian delegation will meet representatives of
the French ministries of economy and foreign affairs, the
Statistics and Economic Research Institute, and the Society for the
Insurance of Foreign Investments.
Talks should tackle ways of reducing Croatia's trade deficit which
has registered a certain increase in the mutual exchange of
commodities, as well as a deficit of almost US$300 million.
