OSIJEK, March 11 (Hina) - The Association of Farmers in Slavonia and
Baranja (ZUSSB) demands that the payment for last year's produce
should commence by March 14, leaders of the Association told a news
conference in Osijek on Thursday.
They believed the deadline set for 14 March would be long enough for
confirming and cashing bills by which the payment for farmers'
delivered products can be conducted.
The head of the Association, Antun Laslo, said this conclusion had
been made during Wednesday's session of the association's steering
committee.
The Association would persist in their demands and insist that all
agreements reached at last week's meeting with the Croatian
Government should be carried out.
We will not tolerate the extension of the March 14 deadline, as the
spring sowing should start soon, Laslo told reporters adding that
the farmers' representatives would talk today with officials of the
Agriculture Ministry on prices of milk and payment of other
agricultural produce.
The Government has to create a sound and stable market for
agricultural produce and invest more in agriculture, Laslo
stressed.
The association is planning to mark the first anniversary of its
establishment during the first convention scheduled for May 21 in
Bizovac, an eastern Croatian spa.
