WASHINGTON, Feb 15 (Hina) - For the first time a person of Croatian origin is a possible candidate for the United States President. The candidate is John Kasich, a Republican at the U.S. Congress' House of Representatives. Kasich
announced his decision to the Federal Electoral Committee in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday, and thereby joined four of his party colleagues in the first phase of the run-up for the White House elections in 2000. Kasich will, for now, only examine the chances for candidacy. Signing up at the electoral committee enables him to, in accordance with law, raise money for the pre-electoral campaign. Even though he pronounces his last name as all Americans, Kasich is proud in his Croatian background. Kasich last visited the land of his ancestors in December 1997, along with a group of US congressmen while visiting US soldiers in Bosnia. His main pre-electoral message is -
