'OPPOSITION SIX' - EXTREMIST LINE PREVAILS IN HDZ

ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - Six Croatian opposition parliament parties estimated they detected further radicalisation of the political actions of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in the past several weeks. The actions are "completely prevailed by an extremist line, particularly confirmed by conduct in the Parliament, occurrences in the judiciary, intelligence services, the Croatian Television (HTV), Hina, etc.," said a joint statement by the 'Opposition Six' presented at Thursday's news conference. The Croatian People's Party (HNS), Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS), Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS), Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS), Liberal Party (LS) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) stressed their decisiveness to consolidate and develop their pre-electoral, electoral and post-electoral cooperation aimed at a democratic change of authority leading to an overall prosperity of the country. The six parties called on all citizens to jointly initiate changes which would ensure freedom, security and dignity for every person. The public will be informed about the meetings, which are not lectoral, HSLS president, Drazen Budisa, said. The assessments about HDZ's extremism are based on the general development of the policy and practice of the HDZ, LS president Vlado Gotovac stressed. "The HDZ is creating corporations which are well known to have always been the predecessors of a totalitarian system," Gotovac stressed, mentioning associations of peasants and pensioners. According to SDP president Ivica Racan, the joint statement did not mean the six parties wished to cease their dialogue with the ruling HDZ. We are prepared, he said, for a real dialogue, under the condition that the HDZ shows it would step aside from extremism in conduct and stances. "If we have nothing to discuss regarding the election list for the Diaspora, and we can discuss other aspects of the electoral law, then there can be no dialogue, Racan said. There is no longer any balance in the HDZ, today, the HDZ is a radical rightist, conservative party, Budisa stressed. He warned of the creation of "an atmosphere which could result in a conflict situation which could evade control". HNS president Radimir Cacic said since the bankruptcy of the Dubrovacka Banka, calling on individuals among the circle of most senior state officials, from the resignations of Miroslav Tudjman, Hrvoje Sarinic, Andrija Hebrang, Miroslav Separovic, Branko Salaj, Mirko Galic, there has been a continuity which warns that "the radical, rightist, pro-Ustasha current is completely taking over in this country". "This is a danger for this country and its citizens," Cacic stressed. (hina) lml mm
